SCCM Error Code 0x00002004

Hi Guys,

I was trying Refresh Scenario in my Lab and came across this error :-

while trying the refresh TS in the request user state phase it gave me error 0x00002004.

Resolution :-

This error is generally caused when you have KB 974571 installed in the machine in which you are executing the TS or in the machines where KB 977203 is not  installed.KB 977203 installs the CCMCert in the machine.
After the installation of CCMCert the Migration was successful.

Read more about SCCM Refresh Scenario -

In Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM), a "refresh scenario" refers to a specific deployment scenario used to reimage or redeploy computers with a new operating system or updated software configurations. This scenario is often employed when you want to replace the existing operating system on a computer with a new one while preserving the user's data and settings.

A common use case for the refresh scenario is when an organization wants to upgrade their computers from an older version of Windows (e.g., Windows 7) to a newer version (e.g., Windows 10). Instead of performing a clean installation, which would erase all data and settings on the computer, a refresh scenario allows for a more seamless transition by preserving user data and customizations.

Key points about the refresh scenario in SCCM include:

1. User Data Preservation: During the refresh scenario, SCCM captures and stores the user's data and settings from the existing operating system before re-imaging the computer. After the new operating system is deployed, SCCM restores the user's data back to the computer, ensuring a smooth migration.

2. Task Sequences: SCCM uses Task Sequences to automate the steps involved in the refresh scenario. Task Sequences are sequences of actions that SCCM performs during the deployment process, allowing for customization and flexibility.

3. Data and Settings Migration: SCCM supports various methods for capturing and migrating user data and settings, such as using User State Migration Tool (USMT) or Windows Easy Transfer.

4. Application Deployment: In addition to the operating system, SCCM can also deploy applications and software updates during the refresh scenario, ensuring that the computer is fully configured with the required software.

5. Preparation and Validation: Before initiating the refresh scenario, it's essential to plan and test the Task Sequence thoroughly to ensure that the deployment process will work as expected and that all necessary data is being captured and restored correctly.

By using the refresh scenario in SCCM, organizations can streamline the process of migrating to a new operating system or updating their software configurations while minimizing disruptions to end-users and preserving their essential data and settings.
