Part 10 - SCCM 2012 R2 Installation : Configuring SCCM Primary Site - Discovery

After the installation of SCCM Primary site we need to configure few more settings related to the Discovery, Boundary, Boundary group, Accounts, Client settings, Distribution point configuration & Application catalog.

So, lets start with configuring the Discovery settings-

You can do these settings from CAS or from Primary Site but if you ant to check the log files it's better to configure these settings from primary sites.

For the first few settings i have configured it in CAS just to show the settings are the same when configured from CAS or from Primary site :-

We are logged in to the CAS server:-


Active directory forest discovery


Right click on the forest discovery & click on properties :-


Check Enable active directory forest discovery, Automatically create Active directory site boundaries when they are discovered & Automatically create IP address range boundaries for IP subnet when they are discovered:-


click on Yes to run the discovery:-


After enabling this discovery you can check ADForestDisc.log on CAS.
Location of the log file - C:\Program Files\Microsoft Configuration Manager\Logs


Active directory group discovery

Right click on "Active directory group discovery" & click on properties :-


On the general tab check "Enable Active Directory Group Discovery" :-


Click on Add & from the drop down list select "Location" :-


Click on Browse & select the AD location, click on Ok.



On the Polling schedule tab select Enable delta discovery & keep the time to be 60 Mins.


Click on Ok and then click Yes to run the discovery :-


Check adsgdis.log for details about the discovery :-


Active Directory System Discovery

Right click on the "Active Directory System Discovery " & click on properties :-
