Part 3 - SCCM 2012 R2 Installation : SQL Installation

SQL Installation


In server Manager Click on Manage/Add Roles and Features:-



Click on Next:-



Select the “Role-based or feature-based installation”:-



Check the name of the server & click on next to continue:-



Click on Next:-



On the feature selection page click on “.NET Framework 3.5 Features”:-



Specify an alternate source path for the .NET Framework 3.5 from the Windows Server 2012 Installation media:-



The location will be <ISO Mounted Drive Letter>:\Sources\SxS:-



Click on Install to begin the installation:-




Once the installation is finished click on Close to end the wizard:-



If .NET framework is not installed before SQL you will get this error:-

 

Mount the SQL installation media & click on “Installation”:-



Click on “New SQL Server stand-alone installation or add features to an existing installation”:-



Once it checks the setup support rules click on “OK” to proceed:-  



Let the setup checks for update install the update if any & click next:-



Click on next to install the updates:-



Once the updates are installed the setup will check the supported rules, click on next if they are passed:-



Enter the product key and click next:-



Accept the EULA & click on Next to continue:-



Select “SQL Server Feature Installation”:-



Select the needed features & click on next to proceed with the installation:-



Once the rules are passed click on next to continue:-



Select the default instance or you can use the Named instance if you want to:-
(Note - I have planned to install separate instance for CAS & Primary Site on the servers separately, so if you have a single server for database you can created a default instance & a named instance for CAS & Primary sites respectively. Do take care about the SQL ports they needs to be separate for both the instances like if CAS instance is using 1433 the Primary Site instance must use 1434 or any other port.)
 


Check the Disk space requirements (only if you are concerned about it :)) & click on next to continue:-



Use a domain account to run the SQL service or else you will get a warning message at the time of installation of SCCM:-



Check the Collation, it needs to be SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS for SCCM:-



Select the “Windows Authentication mode” & click on “Add Current User”:-
 


SQL 2012 install & configures the reporting service directly now we don’t need to configure the SQL reporting service after installation unlike the previous versions:-



If you want to report the error to Microsoft check the box & click on next to proceed:-



Let the setup check the rules, once they are passed click on next to continue:-



Click on next to continue:-




Once the installation is complete click on “Close” to end the wizard:-



Launch the management studio & right click on the instance name & click on properties:-



Select “Memory” & set the Limit to 8 GB (or 8192 MB) this is the memory for SQL installation recommended by Microsoft:-
