Part 1 - Installation & Configuration of Microsoft Hyper-V Server 2012

Insert the media & let the setup begins.
Click next to proceed:-



Click on Install Now to start the setup:-



Accept the EULA and click next to start the setup:-



Click on “Custom: Install the newer version of Hyper-V Server only (advanced)”



Select the drive and click next to begin the installation:-



The installation will begin:-




After the installation is complete click on Administrator for First Login:-



Click ok to change User password:-



Enter User password:-



Click on OK to login:-



This is the console which we get after login:-



We can change around 9 options:-
1.      Domain/Workgroup
2.      Computer Name
3.      Add local administrator
4.      Configure remote management
5.      Windows update settings
6.      Download & install Updates
7.      Remote Desktop
8.      Network Settings
9.      Date & Time

Network Settings:-

We will start with the Network Settings (Option # 8)
Enter the option to know the settings:-



There is an index no. for each NIC the Index no shown above is 11.
For knowing the details of network adapter & to change various settings related to network adapter we need to use this index number.
Network Adapter settings:-
 



Enabling the Ping Option

To enable the hyper-v server to respond to ping, Select Option 4 from the main menu.




Select Option 3 Configure server Response to Ping & press Yes:-



The Ping Options is successfully configured, Click ok.

 

Changing Machine Name:-

Now we will be changing the name of the machine by selecting option # 2 from the main menu:-


After selecting Option # 2, enter the new computer name.
After the name is entered the machine will ask a restart. Click yes to continue.



After the machine restarts we need to create a user & add the user to local admin group:-


Configuration for Hyper-v Manager Access

Create a user:-


Add the user to local admin group:-


Download hvremote.wsf file from here:-
We will be using this script to provide our user the rights to use hyper-v tools.
Adding users with hvremote:-
Copy the user to Hyper-v server and run the following commands.
To add a user:-
Cscript hvremote.wsf /add:username




To Grant DCOM Access:-
Cscript hvremote.wsf /anondcom:grant
